Monuments to a melting voice or the story of a lover that turned into a flower
Skyway Monte Bianco, Courmayeur. 2020
There is a silent soundtrack to the climate change of which we are spectators: it is the one composed of the tones of the single dripping icicle, the creaking that precedes a crevasse fracture, the melting water that flows deep beneath the thicker ice. Monuments to a melting voice or the story of a lover that turned into a flower act as witnesses to ancient sounds. Through the sculptures, the sounds of the Mont Blanc glaciers are amplified. The glacier, sometimes liquid and sometimes solid, is always in motion. Having become the symbol of global warming, its retreat seems to occur faster than expected. According to scientific studies, this might be the last century to admire them. The edelweiss, a symbol of love for the mountains and the courage of those who dare to climb their peaks, here refers to the legend of a young bride. After desperately searching for her husband, fallen into a crevasse, she obtains from Heaven to turn into a flower to stay close to her beloved.
